Position Description
Objectives of the Programme:
The objectives of the Centre, as stated by its mandate, are to provide information and communication technology (ICT) services (including training) on an inter-organizational basis.
This position will contribute to providing ICT services for the “support of United Nations peacekeeping and related operations”, as referred to in the letter of 28 February 2013 from the UN Department of Field Support (DFS) to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MFA) of Spain concerning the deployment of ICC personnel and equipment to the UN Support Base in Valencia, as well as in the corresponding reply letter of 8 July 2013 from the MFA to DFS.
Main duties and responsibilities:
The incumbent of this position will perform their duties from ICC premises located within the UN Support Base in Valencia. ICC premises include data centre facilities and office space provided to the ICC by the UN Department of Field Support (DFS) as stated in the MOU concluded between the UN, represented by DFS, and the ICC in July 2012.
Duties include:
- Installation, administration and maintenance of Windows Server operating systems in ICC and ICC partner’s operations
- Contribute and maintain standard configurations following industry standards and best practices.
- Coordination of change requests
- Provide assistance to Tier-1 and support for Tier-2 incidents
- Writing technical documentation
- Perform other duties as required
- The scope of work includes “stand-by” services on a rotation basis during weekends, holidays and outside of normal working hours
Recruitment Profile
Experience and Skills required:
Essential
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Windows Server systems installation, administration and maintenance
- Server deployment and configuration for physical and virtual machines for Hyper-V and VMware virtualization technologies
- Experience in drafting technical documents
- Experience in change management process
- Very good understanding of installation, configuration and administration of Windows Server operating system, failover clustering, network teaming and server security
- Knowledge of HP Blade System environment
- Understanding and use of virtualization technologies (Hyper-V and VMware)
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a multicultural and remote team
- Ability to grasp concepts, logical and analytical approach to solving problems
- Understanding of Windows systems infrastructure (DNS, Active Directory, LDAP, etc.)
- Familiarity with ITSM or equivalent ticketing and incident management systems
Desirable
- User knowledge of System Center Operations Manager
- User knowledge of Avamar backup
Education:
Essential
- Graduation from secondary school supplemented by training in IT, preferably with diploma
Desirable
- Microsoft training and/or certifications for Microsoft Windows Server
Languages:
- Expert knowledge of English is required.
- Good knowledge of French or Spanish is desirable.

Eligibility:
This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the United Nations Staff Rules. All staff in the General Service and related categories shall be recruited in the country or within commuting distance of each office, irrespective of their nationality and of the length of time they may have been in the country. Compensation:
Annual Salary Estimation (net of tax at single rate): EUR 38,299.
