Purpose of the Position:

The Solutions Architect will interact with ICC’s Client organizations to help analyzing business needs, developing fit-for-purpose solutions, and facilitating the implementation of these solutions across various digital technology domains.

Objectives of the Programme:

The objectives of the Centre, as stated by its mandate, are to provide information and communication technology (ICT) services (including training) on an inter-organizational basis.

Main duties and responsibilities:

The incumbent will work under the direct supervision and guidance of the Chief Technology Officer within the Solution Architecture Section (CPS), within the Client and Projects Division (CP), and in close collaboration with the Solution Architecture team. The incumbent could be requested to do any other tasks of similar level in related fields. S/he will more specifically:

  • Work with different external (client) and internal (technical teams) stakeholders to help expanding business needs into requirements and explore best possible and cost-effective technology solutions
  • Engage in development and implementation of the required solutions, by working closely with different technical teams and developers, during the different project phases
  • Prepare artefacts, analysis reports and solution architecture designs that comply with business prerequisites
  • Support Senior Solutions Architect in exploring technology options, buy vs build decisions and making technology choices
  • Provide first level guidance on architectural practices to clients as well as internal teams
  • Contribute to build prototypes for emerging technology, testing and knowledge transfer to technology teams
  • Interact with clients and support the Senior Solution Architect during the sales cycle
  • Provide technical support to colleagues within ICC
  • Keep abreast of latest technology trends to feed ICC technological strategies and to deliver innovative solutions in a swiftly changing ecosystem

Recruitment Profile

Experience and Skills required:

  • Two years or more of progressing experience in developing integrated solutions within a broad technical context; with at least 1 year in multi-cultural and global international environment
  • Minimum 1 year of solutions architecture or technical design with experience implementing enterprise solutions
  • Technical Knowledge required:
    • Technology Understanding: Good understanding of one or more technology-sets, inter-alia, RPA, Digital Experience platforms, Enterprise applications (ERP, Document/Knowledge/Records management), bespoke application development
    • Cloud Native Services: Building solutions with cloud native technologies – specifically with AWS and Azure services; as well as using some of the technologies with on-prem hybrid cloud
    • Software Architecture Principles/Patterns: understanding of different software design principles and patterns for web technology based applications SoA, micro-services and mobile applications
    • DevOps: understanding of DevOps processes and technologies for CI/CD
    • Middleware and Integration: Enterprise service bus (ESB), Messaging queue management, developing integration interfaces, API and web services
    • Data: Understanding of data ingestion, storage, analysis, interrogation and visualization using modern toolsets
    • Tools: Familiarity with anyone of toolsets such as Atlassian stack, Azure DevOps, Github or Gitlab
    • Product Practices: Understanding of creating MVPs and outcome based product builds
    • Project Practices: Knowledge of different project management practices such as Agile, waterfall etc.
    • Security: Knowledge of data and information security
  • Exhibits a customer-centric engineering approach with an outside perspective
  • Excellent Communication, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Welcomes new technologies and proposes innovative solutions that propel business value
  • Demonstrates the capacity necessary to succeed in a nimble, quick and frequently unclear environment
  • Team building and working with cross-functional teams

Desirable experience:

  • Working for a IT system integrator and/or service provider serving external clients
  • Experience of working practices within ‘not-for-profit’ International Organizations
  • Understanding of UN eco-systems and ICC’s product and services

Desirable Technical Knowledge:

  • Experience in programming (any language such as Python, C, C++, C#, Rust, Go)
  • System administration experience in build and managing complex services with automation
  • Understanding and experience of Web-technology stacks
  • Understanding of ICT Infrastructure (storage, virtual machines, containers, networks)
  • Understanding of IT Service delivery processes
  • Data modelling and Database Management systems
  • Good understanding of the UN system, its organizations and their inter-relationships

Education:

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field

Languages:

  • Expert knowledge of English is required
  • French: Intermediate knowledge is desirable
  • Knowledge of any another official United Nations language is an advantage

Other Information

Compensation:

Annual Salary Estimation (net of tax at single rate), including post adjustment (35% on August 2020): US$ 64,658.
