Purpose of the Position:

The Senior Machine Learning Technician will support in the design and delivery of state of the art data solutions to UNICC’s UN Partners, support the project’s technical team and work on the new and current UNICC Data and Analytics projects. The role will support Machine Learning initiatives of the data program that sets goals, standards, quality management processes, reporting and technology for the same. The Senior Machine Learning Technician will support the next phase of development of the AI and ML use cases across various data platform, specifically with frontend and cloud-based machine learning and analysis tools focused on geospatial datasets.

Objectives of the Programme:

The objective of the Centre is to provide trusted ICT services and digital business solutions to its Clients and Partner Organizations.

Main duties and responsibilities:

The incumbent will work under the direct supervision and guidance of the Chief of the Data & Analytics (DDA) section within the Digital Delivery division (DD) and in close collaboration with the Data & Analytics team. The incumbent could be requested to do any others tasks of similar level in related fields. The incumbent will perform the following duties:

  • Contribute to the development of machine learning pipelines between the Azure /AWS backend and web frontend that can be used to integrate external machine learning models
  • Support the development of parametric machine learning methods to extrapolate data
  • Support data management and data processing functions in the cloud environment
  • Conduct machine learning support on AWS, Azure, particularly related to Data Transformation projects using Databricks
  • Collaborate with UNICC’s data management and infrastructure team to build the platform and support ingestion of datasets
  • Support the data platform portfolios’ and efforts of the data, innovation and partner agencises ML use cases on an ad hoc basis as tasks arise
  • Other: Provide other ad hoc support either within the team or in other teams as required – this includes the participation in special projects or support to service delivery for short period of time on a part-time or full time basis upon request from the senior management

Recruitment Profile

Experience and Skills required:

Essential:

  • At least ten (10) years of work experience in Data Programs, including five (5) years in data management, product / platforms development and information technology systems and tools. A completed university degree from an accredited institution will be counted towards minimum work experience requirements
  • Proven experience in the following areas:
    • creating stakeholder value in Data Analytics and Data Sciences field
    • building partnerships and strategic platforms or services within private, education & not-for-profit sectors
    • on-premises and AWS & Azure Databricks, Data & Analytics stacks and services
    • data analysis and modelling in high demanding performance environment
    • enterprise data management technologies, including database platforms, ETL tools, and SQL
    • working in stack of Azure and AWS AI/ML services
    • agile project development
  • Ability to identify and evaluate systemic risks
  • Understanding of data structures, data modeling and software architecture
  • Knowledge of math, probability, statistics and algorithms
  • Ability to write robust code in Python, Java and C#
  • Excellent technical documentation skills

Desirable:

  • Ability to work on several projects in parallel
  • Oracle PeopleSoft ERP Business modules knowledge and experience (functional and/or technical)
  • DevOps, JIRA and GitHub experience
  • Experience wih data visualization applications such as  Power BI, Tableau, Qlik Sense

Education*:

Essential:

  • Secondary school diploma supplemented by training in IT

Desirable:

  • Microsoft or AWS or Databricks Data related certifications, such as Microsoft Data Certifications, Microsoft Data Management and Analytics or Microsoft Azure Big Data Analytics Solution
  • Prince2, ITIL, SCRUM

Languages:

  • English: Expert knowledge is required
  • Knowledge of the local language of the Duty Station is an advantage

Eligibility:

This vacancy is open to UNICC staff only.

This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the United Nations Staff Rules. Compensation:

Annual Salary Estimation (net of tax at single rate):

  • Valencia, Spain: EUR 50,526
