Position Description

Objectives of the Programme:

The objectives of the Centre, as stated by its mandate, are to provide information and communication technology (ICT) services (including training) on an inter-organizational basis.

Main duties and responsibilities:

The incumbent will work under the direct supervision and guidance of the Head, AWS Services Unit (OPDA) within the Operations Division. The incumbent will be involved in the following duties:

  • In close collaboration with the Head, AWS Service, propose, adapt, implement, deliver and configure scalable AWS solutions, with a focus on AWS IaaS and PaaS
  • Review technical and business functional requirements in order to propose to the Head of OPDA relevant AWS cloud platforms and infrastructures
  • In close collaboration with the Head, AWS Service, execute assessment, migration and implementation plans to deploy optimized AWS infrastructures and move workloads to AWS, using native AWS migration or third-party tools
  • Participate in the development of solutions adapted to the needs of internal and external customers, and propose AWS product improvements
  • Support the evolution of the AWS services by contributing to the design and implementation of new service features
  • Work in close collaboration with other ICC technical teams including Information Security, Architecture, Service Management, etc
  • Contribute to improve internal efficiency and customers satisfaction by finding opportunities to optimize existing processes and tools
  • Draft technical documentation on the AWS services and related procedures and operations
  • Keep abreast of AWS good practices, new trends and services technologies and evaluate these for possible adoption or incorporation
  • Provide other ad hoc support either within your team or in other teams as required – this includes the participation in special projects or support to service delivery for short period of time on a part-time or full time basis upon request from the senior management

The incumbent may be requested to provide support during weekends, holidays or outside working hours as well as to serve as a “stand-by” officer on a rotation basis.

Recruitment Profile

Experience and Skills required:

Essential

  • At least six years of relevant IT experience including in the following areas:
    • Proficient on core IaaA and PaaS AWS services (EC2, S3, EFS, Elastic Beanstalk, RDS, EKS, LightSail, etc.) and native AWS services (Lambda, Athena)
    • Proficient on configuration management and provisioning tools like Puppet or Ansible
    • Solid understanding of AWS Account Structure, Core Organization Services and IAM
    • Strong knowledge in the design and implementation of CI/CD practices and toolchains (Git, Jenkins, AWS Codepipeline, AWS Codebuild, etc)
    • Hands-on experience on Infrastructure as Code (Cloudformation, Terraform)
    • Conceptual and hands-on experience implementing container-based architectures and deployments in cloud environments (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
    • Automation experience using Python, Ruby, Go, etc and AWS CLI
    • Knowledge of general architecture, deployment and administration methodologies and techniques including systems configurations, clustering, networking, OS administration (Windows/Linux), monitoring, security, etc.
    • At least 1 year of experience working with customers on Cloud specific solutions and deployments
    • Experience analyzing, troubleshooting, and providing solutions for technical issues
    • Knowledge and experience of Linux and Microsoft Technology landscape

Desirable

  • Hands-on experience in migrating from on premise systems to AWS, using native and third-party tools
  • Hands-on knowledge of Application Performance Monitoring (APM) tools (New Relic, AppDynamics, etc.)
  • Conceptual and hands-on knowledge of Google Cloud Platform and/or Azure Services
  • Understanding of ICC products and services

Education:

Essential

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Desirable

  • AWS Certification
  • ITIL certification
  • PRINCE2 certification

Languages:

  •  Expert knowledge in English is required

Eligibility:

This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the United Nations Staff Rules. All staff in the General Service and related categories shall be recruited in the country or within commuting distance of each office, irrespective of their nationality and of the length of time they may have been in the country. A staff member subject to local recruitment shall not be eligible for the allowances or benefits exclusively applicable to international recruitment.

Compensation:

Annual Salary Estimation (net of tax at single rate): EUR  43,149.
