Position Description

Purpose of the Position:

The purpose of this position is to provide application support services to UNICC and to its Clients and Partner Organizations and contribute to maintaining efficient processes and technical solutions

Objectives of the Programme:

The objective of the Centre is to provide trusted ICT services and digital business solutions to its Clients and Partner Organizations.

Main duties and responsibilities:

The incumbent will work under the direct supervision and guidance of the Application Development Team Lead within the Digital Business Solutions Section (DDD) in the Digital Delivery Division (DD), and in close collaboration with the other teams of the organization. The incumbent could be requested to do any other tasks of similar level in related fields. The incumbent will perform the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures and automation scripts required to support application operational and project-related activities. This includes drafting of standard operating procedures, coding of automation scripts and troubleshooting of existing scripts
  • Participate in divisional or organizational application support teams and activities. This entails both internal support within the urganization and to Clients and Partner Organizations, providing under guidance automationrelated and general application support as required
  • Contribute to the design, implementation, maintenance, and execution of application support services. This includes day-to-day support of services, monitoring and troubleshooting, and systems administration
  • Support and adhere to the project and service management procedures as implemented by the Organization. This includes project activities, request, incident, and problem management of the services assigned to the unit
  • Maintain comprehensive technical documentation in line with industry best practices
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams within the organization to achieve common goals and resolve technical challenges
  • Other: Provide other ad hoc support either within the team or in other teams as required – this includes the participation in special projects or support to service delivery for short period of time on a part-time or full-time basis upon request from the senior management
  • Be part of in on-call rosters according to published schedules, which may include working outside of normal business hours and on weekends

Recruitment Profile

Experience and Skills required:

Essential:

  • At least three (3) year of relevant hands-on experience in application support, automation, and software development practices. A completed university degree from an accredited institution will be counted towards minimum work experience requirements
  • Experience in automation tools and/or infrastructure as code (e.g. Ansible, Terraform, Kubernetes) in support of IT applications and services
  • Experience in software development and programming languages (e.g. Python, C#, Java)
  • Knowledge DevOps practices (e.g. source code management, containerization, CICD)
  • Experience in using and programming RESTAPIs, thin and thick components

 Desirable:

  • Work experience and knowledge of databases (e.g. Microsoft SQL Server or equivalent)
  • Work experience and knowledge of front-end development (e.g. JavaScript, Typescript, Angular)
  • Work experience and knowledge of scripting languages (e.g. Bash, PowerShell)
  • Documentation skills to create and maintain technical procedures and best practices

Education:

Essential: 

  • Successful completion of secondary school education supplemented by specialized training in IT
  • Familiarity with ITIL best practices

Desirable: 

  • Familiarity with project management methodologies (e.g. PRINCE2)

Languages:

  • English: Expert knowledge is required
  • Knowledge of the local language of the Duty Station is an advantage

Eligibility:

This vacancy is open to UNICC staff only.

This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the United Nations Staff Rules. All staff in the General Service and related categories shall be recruited in the country or within commuting distance of each office, irrespective of their nationality and of the length of time they may have been in the country. Compensation:

Annual Salary Estimation (net of tax at single rate):

  • Brindisi, Italy: EUR 28,456
