Note: this is a re-advertisement, previous applicants to do not need to apply as their application is still under consideration Job Description: We are looking for a Data Scientist intern who will help us discover the information hidden in vast amounts of data and help us make smarter decisions to deliver even better Services. Your primary focus will be in applying data mining techniques, doing statistical analysis, and building high quality prediction systems. The ideal candidate for this position has an exceptional eye for detail, expertise as a data scientist, and a solid understanding of popular data analysis tools. S/he will work closely across UNICC partners and datasets to understand objectives and identify trends in various studies. Responsibilities:- Selecting features, building and optimizing classifiers using machine learning techniques
- Data mining using state-of-the-art methods
- Enhancing data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems
- Processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis
- Perform quantitative and qualitative data analysis
- Doing ad-hoc analysis and presenting results in a clear manner
- Creating Recommendation engines, optimizing machine Learning models and Cross Validate pre built models
- Audit data on a regular basis to ensure data integrity and quality
- Currently studying or recently graduate from a Master’s degree in Applied analytics, computer science, information technology or related field
- Scripting and programming skills (Python, C#, Java etc.)
- Desirable experience with common data science toolkits, such as R, Weka, NumPy etc.
- Desirable experience with data visualization tools, such as Tableau, Power BI will be a plus
- Understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as k-NN, Naive Bayes, SVM, Decision Forests, etc.
- Proficiency in using query languages such as SQL and Experience with databases like Oracle
- Applied statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc.
- Data-oriented personality
- Proficient with cloud implementations (Azure, AWS, GC etc.)
- Must have strong communication skills including capability to explain complex technical topics
