Position Description

Purpose of the Position:

The objective of this position is to lead the development and management of UNICC’s strategy to interact with external political stakeholders, build strategic collaborations and external relationships with public and private sectors Partners, enhance UNICC’s profile and positioning as the lead agency in the UN-System and international organisations’ community for strategic developments in the digital space.

Objectives of the Programme:

The objective of the Centre is to provide trusted ICT services and digital business solutions to its Clients and Partner Organizations.

Main duties and responsibilities:

The incumbent will work under the direct supervision and guidance of the Chief of Staff within the Management and Strategy Division (MS) and in close collaboration with UNICC senior management. The incumbent will assume the following duties and could be requested to do any other tasks of similar level in related fields:

Communications:

  • Support UNICC senior management vision by developing and maintaining the internal and external communications strategy and leading its implementation
  • Lead the creation of corporate content according to UNICC’s mandate and values, assigning projects and tasks to the relevant team members.
  • Coordinate interactions with other relevant sections or units, establishing guidance and best practices on internal and external communication
  • Supervise the development of product collateral to strengthen UNICC’s products and services life cycle, ensuring consistency with the guidelines provided by the Management and Strategy division teams as well as the relevant product teams

Strategic Partnerships:

  • In close collaboration with UNICC senior management as well as colleagues in communication and business relationship management teams, coordinate the development of external public and private sector partnerships and stakeholder management strategy, enabling strong collaborations and directing the implementation of such partnerships’ activities
  • Continually liaise between UNICC and key stakeholders, particularly representatives of Member States, consistently expanding and deepening relations with relevant institutions and authorities
  • Ensure clear and consistent documentation related to strategic partnerships and external relations, promoting consistency throughout the organization, and developing relevant concept notes for specific initiatives, as needed
  • Provide ongoing analysis of political and financial mobilization needs and opportunities and liaise with relevant Resource Mobilization teams in UNICC to develop donor-specific fundraising strategies and advocacy approaches, whilst also promoting best practices and complying with applicable Mandate provisions, Management Committee direction, rules and regulations
  • Provide partnership strategy, thought leadership, and advocacy support to UNICC leadership, as needed

Outreach:

  • Under guidance of the Chief of Staff, coordinate the development of a high-level external relations plan and outreach strategy to raise UNICC’s profile and augment the positioning of UNICC’s Mandate and work within relevant ecosystems
  • Contribute to UNICC’s brand strategy and its implementation including driving the development and implementation of key outreach publications, campaigns, events, ensuring that messaging is in line with outreach strategy
  • Represent UNICC in external forums that further strategic partnerships and external relations goals; as delegated by the Chief of Staff, represent UNICC in inter-agency forums to contribute to strategic discussions on key thematic where UNICC wishes to express its positioning and advocate for it

Management:

  • Develop and manage the Outreach and Strategic Partnership Unit
  • Coordinate and supervise the daily work of the team, including setting up of work plans, monitoring progress, providing regular feedback, technical guidance and support
  • Nurture a motivating work environment including development plans for the team and in fostering teamwork and communication among team members

Other:

  • Provide other ad hoc support either within your team or in other teams as required – this includes the participation in special projects or support to service delivery for short period of time on a part-time or full-time basis upon request from the senior management

Recruitment Profile

Experience and Skills required:

Essential:

  • Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience at the international level in public information, international relations, public administration or related area
  • Proven experience in developing and managing relationships and partnerships with senior stakeholders
  • Experience in managing brand-building or reputational campaigns in public sector
  • Experience in managing public relations efforts at the international level
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders and cross-functional teams including senior executives in public sector
  • Ability to communicate effectively, persuasively and with clarity 

Desirable:

  • Experience in the field of digital technology is desirable

Education*:

Essential:

  • Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent degree) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field is required
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree

Languages:

  • English: Expert knowledge is required
  • Other language: Good level of Spanish or French is desirable

  • Promoting innovation and Organizational learning: Invigorates the Organization by building a culture which encourages learning and development. Sponsors innovative approaches and solutions.
  • Promoting UNICC’s position: Positions UNICC as a leader in ICT services. Gains support for UNICC’s mission. Coordinates plans and communicates in a way that attracts support from intended audiences.

Annual Salary Estimation (net of tax at single rate):

Geneva, (Switzerland) including post adjustment (85,1% on August 2023): US$ 139,939
