Position Description

Background information:
The purpose of the position is to provide onsite technical support of the UNICC Data Center and infrastructure environments in Geneva. The incumbent will be responsible for delivering high quality and cost-effective support services in order to create value for our customers.
Main duties and responsibilities:
The incumbent will work under the direct supervision and guidance of the Senior Team Lead Data Center Support (OPBS) or Chief, Business Solutions Section (OPB) within the Operations Division (OP) and in close collaboration with the Infrastructure and Platform Operations and Management teams. The incumbent could be requested to do any other tasks of similar level in related fields.
Data Center support:
- Support the onsite data center and facilities including cabling of both data and power connections as well as maintain the Data Center ancillaries inside the rack (patching)
- Perform physical installation and de-installation of equipment, management and maintenance of cabling plant both fibre and copper, racks, PDUs; perform standard maintenance tasks and work instructions as per documented procedures
- Maintain the data center environmental conditions such as heating and cooling systems to ensure they are operational and can meet equipment temperature conditions
- Maintain the housekeeping and stock management of materials and supplies (cables, parts, tools, etc.)
- Keep up to date documentation and inventory of equipment, asset management (cabling layout, equipment layout, etc.)
- Contribute to support activities, equipment deliveries and inventory, receive and inspection with vendors as required including escorting visits to the Data Center
- Under guidance, support the data center infrastructure, installation, configuration, documentation maintenance and incident resolution
- Other: The incumbent may be requested to provide support during weekends, holidays or outside working hours as well as to serve as “stand-by” personnel on a rotation basis
Infrastructure support:
- Participate in the installation and configuration of the infrastructure equipment, hardware and solutions using the standard configuration and template as well as the resolution (incident and problem) of infrastructure related issues and requests
- Participate in the documentation and reporting for infrastructure operations as well as maintain accurate system configuration such as Asset Management and physical inventory and any other documentations as required
Other:
- The incumbent may be requested to provide support during weekends, holidays or outside working hours as well as to serve as a “stand-by” officer on a rotation basis
Recruitment Profile
Experience and Skills required:
Essential:
- At least five (5) years of relevant professional experience in the IT sector, including experience in Data Center operations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Data Center Infrastructure Operations and strong understanding of underlying DC components such as HVAC, racks, connectivity, power and structured cabling system
- Working knowledge of Data Center hardware (i.e. servers and components, Network devices, appliances, backup hardware)
- Good technical knowledge and understanding of industry cable test procedures and equipment for a variety of different cabling systems (Copper/Fibre test equipment, OTDR, Network analyser, etc.) including in-depth understanding of Cat 5e/6 and OM3/4 – OS2 fiber optic cabling systems
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and Data Center technical documentation
- Good knowledge of relevant Data Center and network management tools
Important Notes:
- The nature of the work requires occasional work in tight and/or narrow spaces, such as under raised floors
- Frequent work in noisy areas with hotter and colder temperatures than standard office environmental conditions
- Ability to work at heights, off of a ladder and in confined spaces, lift up and move up to 25Kg
- The incumbent must be residing within the commuting distance of no more than 1 hour to the UNICC data center site to provide timely onsite support
Desirable:
- Basic knowledge of ISO2000 Service Management Standards and other service management standards and best practices
- Knowledge of installing HP Servers and Cisco network equipment
- Knowledge of Networking TCP/IP protocols
- Basic understanding in command line interface and basic scripting
- Experience with Windows and Unix/Linux Operating Systems
- Knowledge of ANSI/TIA Data Centre international standards
Education:
Essential:
- Successful completion of secondary school education or its equivalent, supplemented by specialized training in IT
Desirable:
- ICT Infrastructure (Data Center, Cisco, HPE server, structure cabling) related certifications
Languages:
- English: Expert knowledge is required
- French: Intermediate knowledge is required

Compensation:
Fee will be based either on the National Officer salary scales or the Individual Consultancy band levels (for Headquarters)
