Position Description

Purpose of the Position:

The purpose of this position is to provide implementation and on-going support for Microsoft Azure IaaS and PaaS solutions used by UNICC and its clients.

Objectives of the Programme:

The objective of the Centre is to provide trusted ICT services and digital business solutions to its Clients and Partner Organizations.

Main duties and responsibilities:

The incumbent will work under the direct supervision and guidance of the Cloud Operations team lead and support from the Head, Cloud Operations and Platform Services Unit (OPDA) within the Operations Division (OP) and in close collaboration with the Azure Cloud Operations team and other cloud teams. The incumbent will perform the following duties:

  • Support Azure Cloud solutions for UNICC and its clients, with a focus on IaaS and PaaS. In consultation with the Head, OPDA, this will include the creation/update/deletion of Azure resources both manually and programmatically (Infrastructure as Code)
  • Collaborate in automation activities to optimize the way Azure Cloud is supported
  • Draft technical documentation on the Azure services and related procedures and operations
  • Under guidance, review technical requirements to deploy and support cloud platforms and infrastructures
  • Work in close collaboration with other UNICC technical teams including Information Security, Architecture, Service Management, etc., in providing Azure Cloud solutions for UNICC and its clients
  • Keep abreast of Azure good practices, new trends and services technologies and propose improvements when possible
  • Collaborate and provide ad hoc support either within own team or in other teams – this includes the participation in special projects or support to service delivery for short periods, on a part-time or full-time basis, depending on the organization needs
  • The incumbent may be requested to provide support during weekends, holidays or outside working hours as well as to serve as a « stand-by » officer on a rotation basis

Recruitment Profile

Experience and Skills required:

Essential:

  • At least five (5) years of experience in Information Technology or related area, with a focus on cloud, automation and network. A completed university degree from an accredited institution will be counted towards the minimum work experience requirements
  • Sound conceptual and hands-on knowledge of key Microsoft Azure IaaS and PaaS services (compute, networking, storage, databases and web apps)
  • Hands-on experience on Infrastructure as Code and Automation (Terraform, scripting, Ansible)
  • Hands-on experience in managing enterprise networks such as Azure hub & spoke topology
  • Knowledge of general architecture, deployment and administration methodologies and techniques including system configurations, networking, OS administration (Windows/Linux), monitoring, security, etc.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Azure service structure (management groups, subscriptions, resource groups) and Azure core features
  • Strong troubleshooting skills

Desirable:

  • Hands-on experience on Log Analytics Kusto Query Language
  • Knowledge of CI/CD practices and DevOps tools (Azure DevOps, Bitbucket, Pipelines, Git repositories, Visual Studio Code, etc.); understanding of DevSecOps principles
  • Knowledge of Azure Identity (Azure Active Directory, AAD Domain Services, Application Proxy, App registrations, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Google Cloud Platform and/or AWS Services

Education*:

Essential:

  • Successful completion of secondary school education or its equivalent, supplemented by specialized training in IT

Desirable:

  • Cloud certification AZ-104 “Microsoft Azure Administrator” or similar

Languages:

  • English: Expert knowledge is required
  • Knowledge of the local language of the Duty Station is an advantage

Eligibility:

This vacancy is open to UNICC staff only.

This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the United Nations Staff Rules. All staff in the General Service and related categories shall be recruited in the country or within commuting distance of each office, irrespective of their nationality and of the length of time they may have been in the country. A staff member subject to local recruitment shall not be eligible for the allowances or benefits exclusively applicable to international recruitment.

Compensation:

Annual Salary Estimation (net of tax at single rate):

  • Valencia, Spain: EUR 39,799
