Position Description

Purpose of the Position:

The purpose of the post is to support the Head of the Cloud Operations and Platform Service Unit (OPDA) in to the Web Hosting & Platform activities for services provided by the Cloud Services Section (OPD), including the implementation and on-going support of Web Hosting services, on-premises, Azure and AWS for UNICC and its clients. The Web Hosting & Platform Support Lead will act as the main  technical focal point for Web Hosting activities, providing expert support and advice.

Objectives of the Programme:

The objectives of the Centre, is to provide trusted ICT services and digital business solutions to its Clients and Partner Organizations.

Main duties and responsibilities:

The incumbent will work under the direct supervision and guidance of the Head of the Cloud Operations and Platform Service Unit within the Operations Division (OP). The incumbent could be requested to do any others tasks of similar level in related fields:

Under supervision and in close collaboration with the OPDA Cloud Lead, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

  • Supervise the daily activities of the OPDA Web Hosting Support Team
  • Assess technical requirements and establish priorities/timeline/resources
  • Review and diagnose customer issues and propose the appropriate resolution to meet customer needs
  • Prioritize handling and escalation of critical issues and monitoring of service level compliance
  • Coordinate the work on complex technical issues, in collaboration with internal and external support teams
  • Assist clients and internal stakeholders to expand business needs into requirements and support in the review ofbest possible and cost-effective technology solutions
  • Provide reports in regular meetings to client organizations regarding Business Services under the Web Hosting services responsibility
  • Monitor actively client’s operational or project’s requirements, and propose concrete suggestions for service improvement
  • Provide other ad hoc support either within the team or in other teams as required – this includes the participation in special projects or support to service delivery for short period of time on a part-time or full time basis upon request from the senior management

Recruitment Profile

Experience and Skills required:

Essential:

  • Minimum ten (10) years of IT experience, with a focus on Web Applications hosting
  • Proven experience in a supervisory role
  • Proven experience in supporting the architecture and deployment of highly complex Web applications.
  • Hands-on knowledge of Public Cloud IaaS & PaaS services
  • Excellent knowledge of General-Purpose Programming Languages like PHP, Python, Javascript
  • Good knowledge of container technologies including Orchestration tools like Kubernetes
  • Hands-on experience on continuous integration and continuous delivery /continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines

 Desirable:

  • Proven record of demonstrating initiative to improve existing processes

Education*:

Essential:

  • Secondary school diploma complemented by training in IT
  • Certification in Azure or AWS Cloud Services

 Desirable:

  • Service Management qualification

Languages:

  • English: Expert knowledge is required
  • Spanish: Beginner knowledge is desirable

Other Information

Eligibility:

This vacancy is open to UNICC staff only.

This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the United Nations Staff Rules. All staff in the General Service and related categories shall be recruited in the country or within commuting distance of each office, irrespective of their nationality and of the length of time they may have been in the country. A staff member subject to local recruitment shall not be eligible for the allowances or benefits exclusively applicable to international recruitment.

Compensation:

Annual Salary Estimation (net of tax at single rate): EUR 50,526.
