Position Description

Purpose of the Position:

This position will support the design, implementation, management and drive innovation for backup services in collaboration with key stakeholders and external partners. The role will support technical activities, provide architectural guidance and work closely with clients to optimize the service.

Objectives of the Programme:

The objectives of the Centre, as stated by its mandate, are to provide information and communication technology (ICT) services (including training) on an inter-organizational basis.

Main duties and responsibilities:

The incumbent will work under the direct supervision and guidance of the Head, Infrastructure and Platform Management Unit within the Operations Division and in close collaboration with the Ifrastructure and Platform Management team. The incumbent could be requested to do any other tasks of similar level in related fields.

The incumbent will perform the following duties:

Service Delivery

  • Under guidance, coordinate the design and architecture of enterprise backup services, ongoing service delivery and support, ensuring that the services meet agreed customer requirements, that the service is within the agreed budget and meets the defined SLAs
  • With the Head, Infrastructure and Platform Management Unit act as the service owner for the enterprise backup services
  • Provide managed enterprise backup services at Tier 3 level and assist Tier 2 to resolve complex incidents and take part in major incident troubleshooting and resolution

Service Improvement

  • Keep abreast of industry best practices, new trends and technologies and evaluate these for possible adoption or incorporation
  • Under guidance, coordinate the design, implementation and innovation for service improvement and new services and projects in close collaboration with vendors and Clients
  • Provide support training to Tier 1 and Tier 2 and act as a mentor to junior engineers and technicians and help increase Tier 2 technical support knowledge
  • Design and implement automation to enhance operational efficiency, resiliency and rapid provisioning of servers and software

Customer Focus

  • Provide pre-sales and post-sales support to Business Relationship Management (BRM) and Clients, including periodic service reviews and meetings with customer technical and business focal points for performance reviews and continuous service improvement. Ensure consistent and appropriate communication with customers for service-related enquiries and issues

Other

  • Provide other ad-hoc support to other units as required – this includes the participation in special projects or support of service delivery for short periods of time on a part-time or full-time basis upon request from the senior management

Recruitment Profile

Experience and Skills required:

Essential:

  • Minimum five years of relevant IT experience, including in managing and configuring Enterprise Backup Solutions
  • Sound experience in the design, implementation, management and driving innovation for backup services in collaboration with key stakeholders and external partners
  • Excellent understanding of backup infrastructure and the interaction with other infrastructure components
  • Hands-on experience of designing, transitioning and delivering backup solution services
  • Expert knowledge in enterprise backup products (e.g. Avamar, Data Domain, Spanning, Elastic Cloud Storage, S3 etc)
  • Proven ability to prepare and present technical documentation, business cases and project proposals
  • Good conceptual thinking, analytical and problem solving skills

Desirable:

  • Work experience at the international level, especially working with or within organizations of the UN family
  • Good understanding of:
    • Automation
    • Security
    • ISO 20000 and/or ITIL processes

Education*:

Essential:

  • First level university degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Information Technology, Telecommunications, or related field

Desirable:

  • Certifications in any of the following:
  • Enterprise backup products
  • ITIL and/or ISO 20000

Languages:

  • English: Expert knowledge is required
  • Spanish: Beginner knowledge is desirable

Other Information

Compensation:

Annual Salary Estimation (net of tax at single rate), including post adjustment (21,9% on November 2022): US$ 76,421.
