Purpose of the Position:

The purpose of this position is to provide a technical support and coordination role for UNICC’s application Delivery Unit.

Objectives of the Programme:

The objectives of the Centre, as stated by its mandate, are to provide information and communication technology (ICT) services (including training) on an inter-organizational basis.

Main duties and responsibilities:

The incumbent will work under the direct supervision and guidance of the Solutions Delivery Manager within the Application Delivery Team and in close collaboration with the team. The incumbent could be requested to do any others tasks of similar level in related fields.

The incumber will perform the following duties:

  • Under guidance, contribute to the provision of technical support for the build of software applications managed by UNICC for its partners, including administration of the various application tiers
  • Perform system and database administration tasks on projects and services related to the software applications supported by UNICC
  • Install, configure, maintain and support the application technology stack (web servers, application servers, database servers, orchestrators, web services, etc.) in the application environments supported by UNICC
  • Contribute to the design and creation of new application environments, perform code migrations, environment refreshes, application of patches, application and database upgrades, and assist with the implementation of backup, recovery, disaster recovery and application/database monitoring procedures, operational and change management procedures
  • Perform routine production support activities and provide incident and problem management support
  • Address and resolve application related issues ensuring appropriate logging and tracking of resolution following appropriate incident management procedures
  • Address and resolve request for Service ensuring appropriate logging and tracking of resolution following appropriate Request Fulfilment procedures
  • Under guidance, produce technical documentation as required
  • In case of emergencies, provide support (either on-site or remotely using VPN connectivity) outside normal working hours
  • Provide other ad hoc support either within your team or in other teams as required – this includes the participation in special projects or support to service delivery for short period of time on a part-time or full time basis upon request from the senior management

Recruitment Profile

Experience and Skills required:

Essential:

  • Minimum five years of relevant IT experience, i.e. knowledge of IT fundamentals and technologies pertinent to creating business solutions (software development and testing, architecture, applications, databases, integration, infrastructure and networks), including in the following areas:
  • Excellent knowledge of one of the following backed technologies:
    • Drupal and WordPress content management systems
    • PHP Laravel and Symfony frameworks
    • Python and Django Framework
    • Node JS and Express Framework
  • Excellent knowledge of at least one of the following front-end technologies:
    • ReactJS frameworks redux and material-ui
    • Angular frameworks rxjs and material-ui
  • Excellent knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, CSS
  • Excellent knowledge of at least one of the following databases:
    • PostgreSQL
    •  MySQL/MariaDB
    • Oracle/PL SQL
  • Good knowledge of NoSQL databases such as Mongo DB
  • Excellent knowledge of Linux/Unix, Docker/Kubernetes and containerized solutions
  • Good knowledge of API driven microservices architecture
  • Experience in working with remote teams, GIT version control branching and mergingExperience in implementing public web application and web services security controls

 Desirable:

  • Knowledge of PRINCE 2
  • Knowledge of Agile development
  • Familiarity with Jira, Bitbucket
  • Basic knowledge of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)
  • Good understanding of Local and Wide Area Network concepts

Education:

Essential:

  • Graduation from secondary school supplemented by training in IT

Desirable:

  • IT diploma
  • Certifications in areas of Application development, tools and frameworks
  • ITIL Foundation or intermediate certifications

Languages:

  • English: Expert knowledge is required

Eligibility:

This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the United Nations Staff Rules. All staff in the General Service and related categories shall be recruited in the country or within commuting distance of each office, irrespective of their nationality and of the length of time they may have been in the country. A staff member subject to local recruitment shall not be eligible for the allowances or benefits exclusively applicable to international recruitment.

Compensation:

Annual Salary Estimation (net of tax at single rate):

  • Brindisi, Italy: EUR 30,817
  • Valencia, Spain: EUR 38,414
