Common Secure Conference 2022

The United Nations International Computing Centre (UNICC) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) are pleased to announce that the 4th Annual Common Secure Conference and the 5th Annual UNDP Cybersecurity for Developing Nations Conference will take place as an onsite event in Valencia, Spain, from the 3rd to the 7th of October 2022. The conference will include the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST) Technical Colloquium.

The purpose of the conference is to share best practices, develop synergies and enhance collaboration within the UN system and with national and international Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERTs). The conference blends vendor and regional stakeholder sessions with presentations and input from UN Agencies, civil society and academic participants.

UNICC Director's Report 2021

The United Nations International Computing Centre (UNICC) Director’s Report 2021 provides a snapshot of what UNICC achieved during a tumultuous yet productive year. The second year of the COVID-19 pandemic presented the UN system with many challenges, but also provided UNICC with the opportunity to produce greater and more innovative technology-driven solutions in collaboration with its trusted Clients and Partner Organizations.

This report highlights UNICC's key achievements and innovations in 2021 as well as some insights into the paths that UNICC will take in the future, the challenges that lie ahead and UNICC's commitment to staying SDG-focused while delivering secure, trusted and scalable digital services to the UN family based on global best practices.

UNICC Delivers

UNICC Supports FAO Conferencing Needs for its 170th Council Session

UNICC partnered with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to plan, set up and integrate a reliable, scalable and user-friendly virtual conference platform for FAO’s 170th Council session. UNICC and FAO teams, together with the 6Connex platform team met regularly to review work done and sync on the required actions for the implementation and customization of the live chat tool in 6Connex.

OECD/UNDP – Tax Inspectors Without Borders: A Digitalization Journey

UNICC partnered with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to deliver a digital business solution for tax audit capacity-building programmes. The solution includes features that support contact management, programme cycle management, documentation storage, collaboration tools for UNDP partners and more.

UNICC Builds Mandate Review and Management System to Support UN Secretariat Business Processes

UNICC supported the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in building a Mandate Review and Management System (MRMS) to unify and systematize the UN Secretariat’s intricate PBI business process workflows, augmenting collaboration in real-time using the UN’s M365 technology toolkit.

Meet Rafiki: UN Partner Portal Answer Bot

The UN Partner Portal, managed by UNICC, is a centralized online platform that streamlines partnership opportunity selection between UN Agencies (UN Secretariat, UNFPA, UNICEF, UNHCR and WFP) and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs). The portal’s Helpdesk has a new helper named Rafiki that was developed by UNICC’s Application Delivery team to help users of the platform find answers to their most common questions.

UNDP Crisis Bureau’s Crisis Risk Dashboard Support

UNICC has been working with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) since 2016 to provide support for data warehouse management and Business Intelligence services for their Crisis Risk Dashboard (CRD). More recently, UNICC has supported UNDP with advanced analytics, communications, operational support and their platform migration to the cloud.

UNICC Academic Partnerships Help Students Take Learning Beyond the Classroom

The University of Salento, New York University (NYU) Stern School of Business and the Polytechnic University of Valencia have recently partnered with UNICC for student capstone projects in data science. UNICC proposed several challenging data use-case projects for students who were looking to gain hands-on experience working on real-world projects.

UNICC Wins a CDO Data4Good Award for Quality Education

Chief Data Officer (CDO) magazine has selected UNICC for its 2022 Data4Good Awards together with thirteen other organizations. The 2022 UNICC Global Data Hackathon was chosen for its wide reach in bringing together UNICC family stakeholders to apply data expertise to selected United Nations challenges and use cases.

UNICC Joins UNJSPF as a Winner of UN Secretary-General Awards 2021

Every year, the UN Secretary-General recognizes the inspiring work of United Nations personnel who have gone above and beyond their duties, or have introduced new ideas with great potential. This year, he recognizes four worthy winners, including UNJSPF and UNICC for the Fund’s Digital Certificate of Entitlement (DCE) solution to replace paper-based pension verification processes.

UNICC Joins PAHO as a Winner of the World Procurement Award 2022 for Digital Impact

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), a specialized international health agency of the WHO for the Americas, won the World Procurement Award for Digital Impact for its first ‘Digital Workers’, Mia and Max bots, developed by UNICC’s Robotic Process Automation Centre of Excellence and PAHO’s Procurement and Supply Management Team.

UNICC Director and Chief of Operations Speak at Diplo’s Science Diplomacy Week Open Forum

On 17 May 2022, Sameer Chauhan, Director, UNICC and Marco Liuzzi, Chief, Operations Division, UNICC, spoke at the ’AI as a Tool for Diplomacy and Mediation’ event to discuss Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools UNICC has developed and their impact on the work of diplomats, as well as the challenges UNICC faced in order to create a set of needs-oriented tools.

On Thursday, 26 May, 2022, Bojan Simetic, Information Security Specialist at UNICC, presented as a keynote speaker at the Group-IB’s Digital Risk Summit 2022, which brings together independent analysts, cybersecurity experts and representatives of different industries to share the best practices for developing and scaling digital security and brand protection strategies in the time of COVID-19 and beyond.
