ICC’s Enterprise Data Storage Service provides mainframe users with a large pool of emulated 3390 disk drives. All drives are RAID-1 (mirrored) and are connected to the z/Series processor by ESCON fibre channels. Each ESCON
channel provides a maximum of 17MB/sec of throughput.

Details
Charges may be on a by-usage basis for shared disks or by disk volume where a disk is dedicated to
an organization.
Normally, disks are configured as 3390-Model 3, but for performance or other business reasons, 3390 Model-1, Model-2, Model-9 and Model-27 disks are also made available.

Storage Management Option (SMO) – provides a variety of disk management services:
- Disk defragmentation
- Dataset reorganization
- Dataset space release
- Merging of dataset extents
- Deletion of selected datasets
