Linux on Mainframe pilot project
In the second ICC Users Group (IUG) meeting on 11 April 2003, ICC presented opportunities for deploying virtual Linux servers on the Mainframe. The ability to deploy, almost instantly, virtual Linux servers for applications like website hosting, DNS service, etc. may make Linux on the Mainframe a viable alternative to a distributed environment.
ICC announced plans to develop a pilot project to examine and qualify the opportunities. IUG participants expressed interest in the project, and asked if a concurrent business analysis could b performed that would help clients evaluate the business case for deploying select services under Linux on the Mainframe.
