Service Continuity Centre (SCC)
ICC has long maintained a Disaster Recovery plan for its mainframe services. The plan is tested twice annually in close coordination with Partner Organizations.
In Mid-2004, ICC initiated a project to enhance the Centre’s Disaster Recovery (DR) capability for non-Mainframe Services. Different options were explored in order to find the right balance between risk mitigation and cost.
The following are some of the criteria considered:
- Trusted and secure environment
- High quality Gigabit Ethernet connectivity
- Ability to build resiliency into existing Network Infrastructure design
- Utilize existing redundant equipment, if possible, to contain costs
- Utilize existing firewall clusters, proxies, etc.
Options and recommendations were presented to the ICC Management Committee for decision in late 2004, and in April 2005, ICC began work on establishing the Service Continuity Centre (SCC).
The SCC is located in the Geneva metropolitan area and provides a good physical separation from the ICC Data Centre, while allowing for multiple high-speed, high availability network links to be established between the two locations. The latter allows ICC to split clustered hardware across the two physical locations, providing immediate fail-over capability without degrading service quality.
ICC will continue to enhance and expand the DR capabilities of all services.
