BlackBerry Gateway Service
In November 2004, a pilot project to implement a BlackBerry Gateway Service was initiated for the Lotus Domino messaging platform based on BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES). The BlackBerry Gateway Service provides a fully managed mobile interface to client's electronic mail system via hand-held devices from Research in Motion (RIM). BlackBerry service is now available on some hand-held devices of other manufacturers with the installation of BlackBerry ConnectTM software.
ICC staff members as well as a major Partner Organization worked to evaluate the usability and functionality of the BlackBerry Gateway Service. The pilot implementation was reviewed and the service was found to be an excellent candidate to become a standard ICC Shared Service.
ICC Shared Services provide our Partner Organizations with cost savings by leveraging economies of scale that might not be possible for an individual organization to achieve on their own.
Following this initial success, ICC initiated similar pilot implementations for Microsoft Exchange (Q2/2005) and Novell GroupWise (Q4/2005)
As of 1 January 2006, over 120 staff members from our Partner Organizations are using the BlackBerry Gateway Service.
Benefits to our clients include:
- High performance and availability infrastructure, with redundant hardware and dual-path Internet access
- Gateways installed in a highly secured environment
- 7/24 support by experienced technical staff
