Position Description
Purpose of the Position

The purpose of this post is to be responsible for the administration and onsite maintenance of the ICC’s Storage Systems and Storage Area Network as well as customer dedicated environments.

Objectives of the Programme
The objectives of the Centre, as stated by its mandate, are to provide information and communication technology (ICT) services (including training) on an inter-organizational basis.
Summary of Assigned Duties

  • Coordinate with storage vendor for the installation of new units.
  • Provide support to users of ICC’s storage on-demand service and customer dedicated environments, including storage allocation/de-allocation and ensure that throughput and response times are within the application operational values.
  • Perform storage capacity planning and coordinate capacity upgrades.
  • Monitor all storage arrays, including fault reporting and follow up escalation procedures.
  • Install and configure fibre channel fabrics, including NXOS troubleshooting.
  • Provide end-user support on the configuration and troubleshooting of Server multi-pathing software.
  • Perform fault management, including end-to-end case handling.
  • Liaise with vendor for onsite intervention for HW failure analysis and HW replacement.
  • Create and update performance baselines and carry out performance troubleshooting when needed.
  • Update corresponding chargeback databases.
  • Perform other duties as required.
 
The incumbent will be required to provide “stand-by” services during weekends and outside normal working hours.

Functional Knowledge and Skills

Essential:
  • Hands-on ability to configure and manage Fibre Channel SAN devices.
  • Ability to perform installation, customization and performance-tuning tasks related to the storage systems and SAN.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to prepare documentation and project proposals.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

 

Education

Essential:
  • University degree in Electrical engineering, Computer Science or related field; or equivalent professional training or self-study/work experience.
 
Desirable:
  • Attendance of at least one EVA, 3PAR, Netapp, VMAX  and Cisco storage related certified training.

 

Experience

Essential:
  • Five years of hands-on experience managing and administering NETAPP FAS, HP EVA and 3PAR, COMPELLENT,  EMC VMAX or other storage systems.
  • Experience configuring,  managing and  troubleshooting Cisco MDS fibre channels switches and related storage networking technologies (FCIP, Inter-VSAN routing, etc)
  • Experience troubleshooting SAN environments (Array and Fabric).
 
Desirable:
  • Experience with SAN Replication technologies and their application in Disaster Recovery and business continuity environment.
  • Experience with Server volume Management and Multi-pathing software in different OS platforms (mainly Windows and Linux).

 

Languages

Essential:
  • Expert knowledge of English. 
 
Desirable
  • Working knowledge of French.
  • Working knowledge of another UN official language.
